I have been learning Joomla lately, it has been incredibly fun.  I have a serious crush on the open source movement too.  For non techies, "open source" basically means free.  It comes from the idea that people would allow you to not only have something they have developed for free, but they would allow you access to the source code so you could go and alter it anyway you want, turning it into a community project of sort.  It means that people develop things for people to use and bare all to the world by saying "you know what? you can have this for nothing".  The best part about it is when other people find it useful, they feel the need to give back and develop something for others to use.  This process is repeated time and time again, and what you then have is an entire community of people sharing their work, experiences and time with others.  It just keeps perpetuating, over and over.

A beautiful thing...

I have spent a fair amount of time over the last week developing a website for my guild in WoW (yes I AM that nerdy), and I am pretty chuffed with what I have done so far.  You can check it out HERE. And I have learnt an absolute shitload while doing it.  In fact, it has made me realise a few important things.

  1. I love IT
  2. I would love to get paid for doing IT stuff
  3. I love religion but my degree really isn't going to get me anywhere
  4. Perhaps I should be studying what I really love and do IT

So I have decided to change degrees, and although I am a little embarrassed to admit that I tend to change my mind often, the only thing that I have really been passionate about my entire life (all 26 yrs of it) is my love for technology.  It is the future.  Who can debate that?  Suffice to say, I changed my degree to a BA (Internet Communications).  I can't wait to start back in May!
